Feis Bharraigh begun in 1981 when Father Colin MacInnes, along with the piper Angus MacDonald,came up with the idea to promote, encourage, foster and develop the practice and study of the Gaeliclanguage, literature, music, drama and culture in the islands of Barra & Vatersay.Feis Bharraigh is comprised of a week of local events, games, concerts and dances. What makes itunique is its emphasis on the areas language, culture and identity, and the oppurtunity it gave to youngpeople to give expression to these.Since its inception in 1981 it has gone on to become a movement, now with 43 other feisean taking placeevery year throughout Scotland.For more information about the other feisean sees www.feisean.org
